Liberia, Costa Rica 2010

[Nov 11-14, 2010 – Liberia, Costa Rica] First time in Central America! And of course first time in Costa Rica. Flew into LIB (Liberia, Costa Rica) airport, then went to the all-inclusive Hilton Papagayo Resort and Spa. It was great fun. Did zip-lining at the “Congo Trail Canopy Tour”. (TRAVEL NOTE: Most Central and South American countries charge either an entry tax or an exit tax, so make sure you have cash!!! Why? This is because the US started charging people from Central and South America.)

Went to the “Congo Trail Canopy Tour” where you zip line through the forest. Here is a video of me going down the longest line of the series of zip lines:

Charissa’s and Kevin’s Wedding, Indianapolis, IN Nov 6, 2010

[Nov 6, 2010 – Indianapolis, IN, US] Okay, I flew in for Charissa and Kevin’s wedding. Took over 300 pictures and “narrowed” it down to 100-ish of the best shots. Even with the best of the bunch, some turned out to be fuzzy and had no other shots, so I loaded the best of the fuzzy ones. The reception was fun, and I briefly went to the post-reception at the hotel and then I zonked out early 🙁 But at least I got a few pictures there too…

Cutting the cake…

Hal-Con SciFi Convention, Halifax 2010

[Oct 29-31, 2010 Halifax, NS, Canada] So, months ago, I decided to go to Hal-Con in Halifax. How did I find Hal-Con in Canada? Well, I was using my own site, ToServeFan.com. I have four volunteers (LAMP, JAR, LAT and SLR) working on populating the data on all (fun stuff, not business/trade) conventions in the entire known universe. So anyway, I was looking into going to a con for the Halloween weekend and picked Hal-Con. Was pretty cool. It was their first con (didn’t know that). The last time Haifax had a con of it’s own was half a dozen years ago, so the turnout was pretty impressive. The execution for being the first con was pretty good. They will need to work on crowd control better next time though. And, like other cons I have been going to, the attendance was way under-estimated, so they had more people than most all of the program rooms could hold. There were several con guests, notably Walter Koenig and Denise Crosby. If con-goers bought the VIP ticket, there was a three hour event that all of the con-guests were at and anyone could visit and talk with them. Of course I chatted up with Walter Koenig and Denise Crosby 🙂 It was a fun time.

Deerfield Beach, FL 2010

[Oct 14-17, 2010 – Deerfield Beach, FL, US] Okay, so I had Yohi reunion withdrawals so I contacted Pati in Boca Raton, FL. I found her on Facebook a while back and we friended each other and had FaceBook posts and but that was about it for a while now. (She couldn’t make it to the reunion due to her surgery on her arm. I knew from band Freshman year at YoHi. I remember her from Sullivan’s Middle School too.) Anyway, long story short, I said I wanted to visit and she said sure, so we had lunch on Saturday at the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach. We talked for three hours. Wow, that was a ton of catching up to do.

Yohi Reunion Las Vegas, NV 2010

[Oct 9, 2010 – Las Vegas, NV, US] Well, it’s been 35-36 years (!!!) since I saw anyone from YoHi (previously Yokohama High School, when I went it moved and was Yokosuka High School. Both were “Yo” so the nickname didn’t have to change. The official name of the school is the Nile C. Kinnick High School, US Navy Base in Japan.)

I didn’t know who half the people were and I only vaguely knew someone as a person I passed in the hallway or something. Others, I knew a tad bit more; but it was all kinda fuzzy. We all went to the yearbooks people brought and looked up people. Then it was oh yeah, I know you. Or I saw you in… etc. So I took bunch of pictures from the yearbook and posted a bunch of the people I knew…
