Ireland 2010

[July 05-09, 2010 Ireland] Well I flew out to Ireland for the week – straight from Convergence Con (see below) on July 4, 2010. Was there till July 9. First time in Ireland. First day (July 5), landed, hopped on a bus and went to the hotel. I was tired from the weekend and the plane flight so I just hung in the concierge lounge of the (Marriott Renaissance) Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. The following day (July 6), I did a self-directed walking tour of Dublin. Went around to a few cathedrals and took pictures, then Dublin Castle. After that, did the Jameson Distillery tour, then the Guinness Storehouse tour. Next day (July 7), went on a rail tour – started early in the morning at 5:00am, starting at Hueston station in Dublin onto a high speed train to Limerick Junction, then to Limerick, then to the west coast of Ireland to the Cliffs of Moher, then Burren and to Galway – then back to Dublin – around 9:00pm. The following day (July 8), I slept in since I was zonked out. I woke up and when I was doing my email, I found out that my friend Tim Costello had died of a heart attack – he was only 42. I was really bummed because it was Tim who went to Dublin previously and he was the one who told me where to go in Dublin. So, I rushed out to The Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Dublin and I ordered a Guinness and drank a toast to Tim. That night I just hung out in the concierge lounge of the hotel. Then I flew back to the US on July 9.

Grand Canyon, Sedona, etc. Arizona 2010

[Apr 09 – Apr 16, 2010, Grand Canyon, Sedona, etc., AZ] My cousin Yuki flew in from Japan to visit my dad so I took a week off and went to visit them. Visited my mon’s grave site 🙁 That was the saddest part. Went to, as in drove from Oracle, AZ (north of Tucson) to the Grand Canyon. Stayed overnight then on the way back visited Sedona. Went to the Sonora Desert Museum on another day. And a few other places. Well, here are the pictures…

Washington DC Snowstorm 2010

[Feb 08 – Feb 12, 2010, Arlington, VA] It snowed big huge time. Closed the airport. Metro was dead. Streets were left unplowed for weeks. It was bad. I was going to LA for a Mensa Regional Gathering but they closed the airport so I was stuck in my hotel room. Oh well, at least I had my Starbucks everyday 🙂

Starbucks was open

Aruba 2010

[Feb 4 – Feb 8, 2010, Aruba] So I few all the way down to Aruba. Equatorial, so the sun is intense! DO NOT go outside without SPF1000000 slathered all over your body! I took a five minute walk in the sun and I could feel my skin cooking. Oops. Luckily I dived into building shadows. I went on a sunset cruise and had SPF 50 on and I had to reapply the gook on my face every ten minutes or so. I saw people who were more red than the brightest red lobster walking on the beaches. Skin cancer candidates! I wanted to scream at them to get in now! They will be in massive massive pain the next day. Hopefully that’s all that will happen to them. And, hopefully their family members will inspect their skin every couple of months for about a year. (Bob Marley, the Reggae artist, died of skin cancer – on his foot. Yep, so watch out for any lumps anywhere on your skin!)

Key West, FL 1st Annual Food and Wine Fest

[Jan 28 – Jan 31, 2010, Key West, FL] Went to Key West to go to the First Annual Food and Wine Festival. It was pretty good. A tad disorganized but hey, it’s their first one. Next year ought to be bigger and better. If youi know the legend of Captain Tony, I met one of his daughters – she was working at the concierge desk at the Key West Marriott. That was cool 🙂 I also made friends with the Barefoot Winery rep. After the wine and food tasting event in the tent was over, they gave me a few bottles 🙂
